Synopsis of the book
“Abandoned suddenly by his grandmother, 16 year old Andrew lives aimlessly with little thought for the future. The sudden appearance of the anti-witch organisation, Oz, throws his sedentary life completely out of balance!
After a wild turn of events, Andrew finds himself becoming the apprentice of the witches of darkness in the magical realm of Enos. Follow Andrew's journey into Enos as he learns more about magic, his masters, and his grandmother.”
The author of Chronicles of a Boy Witch hired me to create concept art to complement the first three chapters of their book. The goal with this piece is to help set the scene of Skyridge farm, where it all begins.
The author and I had a lot of back and forth and the creative brief on her part began with a few doodles. We also looked at a few reference photos for inspiration:
The creative brief
Using these doodles, the chapters of the book, and what she described she wanted along the map that she doodled, I made a sketch.
Upon getting the green light for the approved sketch, I started painting on Photoshop. We had some discussions about the colour palette and changed the time of day depicted. Overall, both I and my client were satisfied with how it came together.
